             Reflections Of…HOPE!

Times are tough!

People are hurting.
No matter what the TV talking heads are trying to say otherwise…
These are uncertain times.
Jobs are not easy to come by.
I have a dear friend who has been trying her very hardest…
And has not secured a job in 6 months!
It is just so disappointing.
I have another dear friend who is dealing with terminal cancer.
Certainly NOT what she thought her 2013 would be like.
And there is a young couple who has had their life turned upside down…
With the realization that “life, as they thought it would be—just won’t happen!”
So disconcerting.
You just think everyone has a right to a good life—
Our constitution promises us to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!
Takes a while till you read that again and see…it only promises the pursuit of happiness!
Some people say it’s all about the pursuit—others just wonder, when do you ever “catch that happiness?”
There are just so many anxiety ridden people all around us.
At work, there’s a young man who is now on meds that have changed his whole personality—to help him.
He said that his thoughts are sluggish and his mind is a little garbled and he sleeps a whole lot more.
And even with the meds…he is still nervous about his future.
Whether it is unemployment, physical hurdles or emotional valleys—we need HOPE!
I was in a home recently, and printed out on a sheet of paper and placed on their cupboard door was the following:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, with prayer and petitions, let your requests be known to God…

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ!”

Philippians 4:6

It was a constant reminder for this family—don’t worry, be happy! (remember that Bobby McFarren song?)

Seriously—in a place where they all gathered and all interacted and all intersected—it was their reminder!
God is in control!
God is on our side!
God is our peace of mind!
God is our guard!
We need to know—in these uncertain times, we have a certain God!
Maybe we need to put this scripture up—where we can see it—where we can be reminded—
Don’t be scared, be comforted—embrace the peace of God, let it guard your heart and relieve your mind!
Our hope is in Jesus!
I will admit—I needed this reminder.
I am a fixer—maybe most men are.
Give me a problem and I will find a way to fix it.
That’s just what I do.
But sometimes—some things are just too big to fix—and that’s when “fixers” become anxious!
I can’t fix cancer.
I can’t fix unemployment.
I can’t fix emotional upheaval in someone else’s life.
But…
I can hope.
I can trust.
I can believe.
God is in control!
Don’t worry, Be happy—as the song goes.
Because the Word of God is reminding us of the one thing
That combats all the anxiety this life can bring…
The FIXER is on the Scene and His Name is JESUS!
Rest and just let Him handle it all!
HOPE!
We have a hope…
Our hope is in Jesus!
Pass the word along to all you know who are hurting and scared and feeling uncertain…
Jesus is our hope!
He is better than any medicine the doctors will give you for your anxiety and depression.
He is better than any chemo treatment you will ever take.
He is better than all the job possibilities that seem so promising…until they are followed by repeated rejection.
Sometimes…we have to just replace our stinkin’ thinkin’ with encouragement.

I prescribe Philippians 4:6-7
