"An Unfurled Flag-- Our Symbol of Freedom!"

                    Points2Ponder

                                                  By Alan P. Scaglone

I pledge allegiance to the Flag
Of the United States of America
And to the Republic
For which it stands
One Nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all!

Remember saying that pledge each morning at school?
How about the “moment of silence” right after that?
So you could PRAY, IF you wanted to…or NOT pray, IF you chose not to pray.
We were raised to respect all people, all beliefs…
But this Nation was founded on Christian beliefs with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the center of those beliefs!

As we celebrate our Nation’s Birthday tomorrow, we stop to remind ourselves of all the good our Nation still has to offer its citizens.
And we pause to Pray for Our Nation—and remind ourselves that we ARE a praying nation!

Points2Ponder  How can we celebrate a birthday without reflecting on how far we have come to get us to where we are today? When’s the last time you stood up for One Nation Under God? What’s the one birthday wish we would want for our Nation?
We are still a country that is respected and revered across the world!
Our troops are defending freedom and the right to decide your own future in many countries.
We send food assistance around the world whenever a natural disaster happens.
We are still a giving people and a generous nation!
That’s part of our foundational core—to help others in need, thankful that we can and willing to do whatever we can—to help!
As we stop and celebrate our birthday, Old Glory still brings tears to my eyes—I love to see our flag waving high, in the wind, proclaiming “Justice for All!”
As we salute our military, the men and women who defend our right to be free…
It’s the Home of the FREE because of the BRAVE!
We honor them as they come home to us—some so different than how they left—but they are our HEROES—no matter what the disability they may now face!
We will be there for THEM—repaying their dedication to be there for US!
As you and your family gather for food and fun on this 4th of July
Pause to Pray as a family—for our veterans, past and present—for our soldiers who never get a holiday off—while they are standing watch so we can celebrate our Birthday!
I hold dear the truths that make us Americans, and I am proud to salute our flag!
I still put my hand over my heart when pledging allegiance to our flag—and I take off my hat, too!
I may be old school—but I believe in respect where respect is due—and respect has been earned over and over again—We are a Country Proud of our Heritage!
And you need to know—I am 3rd generation American.
My grandmother was sent alone, without her parents or her siblings, when she was twelve years old, from Sicily to Ellis Island.
When she got to America, the boat was quarantined for 30 days, keeping her on that boat just that much longer, but…
That twelve year old scared little girl saw the Statue of Liberty—the symbol Welcome To America—
Proclaiming to the world “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free!”
And she made a life here in her new home—from Little Italy in New York to Little Italy in Chicago to Little Italy in Ybor City, Florida…
Josephina Genco braved the high seas, without family, on her way to a hope for a better life for her…
And that little girl, just 12 years old, grew up to become Josephina Genco Scaglione, my Nana(grandmother)!
And I am proud to be an American because I know how much it cost her to travel to our Home of the Free—and raise her son Guiseppe, who would have a son, Alan
Who would proclaim “May GOD continue to BLESS the United States of AMERICA!!”
WE proudly celebrate our rich heritage for all the immigrants—MOST of US—who came from somewhere else—for a better life—for opportunity—for safety—

Let Freedom Ring!
