Reflections Of… Life!

Happy
Anniversary…to me!
Anniversaries…We celebrate them…
And sometimes, we forget them…
And we get in trouble.
Any husbands out there ever forget their wedding anniversary?
I feel your pain—she was NOT happy, now was she?
Yeh—that’s one anniversary you want SIRI on your IPhone to remind you of—3 days early!!
But there are other anniversaries…
And we celebrate because of the memory we have of that momentous occasion—
It means something to us—that’s why we celebrate!
But…most people may not celebrate…
The day they had a dress rehearsal for their death!
Yep—Tuesday is the 4th anniversary of the day I had my heart attack!
And I still celebrate… the fact that I survived the Widow Maker!
God had a plan—and thank God…His plan for me was NOT to meet Him yet!
I have often said, “I’ve got my reservation made, but I’m not in a hurry to get there!”
Maybe you’ve had a “dress rehearsal” of your own?
I know my friend’s heart stopped a couple of times last Fall—and she is alive to talk about it.
So… maybe, as we get in that Final Third of life—more and more of us have those moments…
That make us wonder “What would I have missed, if… I did “go” that day?
I know I always wax nostalgic around this time of year…
I remember each anniversary:
1st – my friend Teeto had my colleagues take up an offering and bought me a turkey(it’s all I ate)---frozen—and he plopped it on my desk! Lol
2nd- I got up that morning and retraced my steps, by myself, to the hospital, at the exact same time as when I drove myself—during the heart attack.
3rd – I waited to see who would remember and if it mattered to them—they didn’t and…it didn’t-- that was a sobering realization.
This year—I am going to work—it’s just another day—to everyone else—but, for me… I reflect on all the “good” memories I would have missed making.
Like…
-All my times with my grandson Jett, from him calling me “Alwyn” … to him telling me I was “Jett’s Buddy!”; if you know me, you know what Jett means to me.
-Writing my book and having it published and then…as of last week, having the sequel published too—The “Max/Gringolito Saga” is complete!
-The honor of performing the wedding ceremony of my son and his lovely bride— on a memorable blue moon night on New Year’s Eve! Priceless!
-The recent honor of performing my godson’s wedding to his lovely bride—a memorable moment…that I would have missed.
-The births of Malaki and Sweet Cali—our most recent grandchildren—we now have 4 boys and 2 girls—and they are such a joy to our hearts!
-Being asked to write for Xulon Press as a reporter—interviewing 25 Christian authors – and writing a twice monthly column that spotlights their successes!
-2010—I reconnected with three people who are very special to me: Mama Mamie, Brother Butch and Sandy May! All of them mean so much to me!
-And my bona fide, MRI tested and proven, healing of my heart! I have a world renowned cardiologist who will attest—“looks like Alan never had a heart attack!”
I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
And in my heart… we really are “Forever Young!”
The scripture instructs us to “Remind ourselves, like Stones of Remembrance, of what God did for us, how He rescued us, from the jaws of death!”
Yes—I am celebrating How HE rescued me!
Thank you Jesus!
