Reflections of ....MISSIONS!

"Missionaries Rev. Charles and Mavis Thornton"

        Reflections Of… God!

                                                    by Alan P. Scaglione

My God is more than enough
He can supply all my needs
He is my El Shaddai
He always looks out for me
Jehovah Jirah, He is my God

Anybody remember that Gary Oliver song? Apparently, Gloria Gaynor sang it also…
It’s an anthem song—proclaims that God is our provision, our source, our resource—for all we need!
And that applies to finances too!
I had a great conversation with one of my dearest friends, Rev. Charles T. Thornton.
He and his lovely wife Mavis are missionaries to Costa Rica and soon…to Brazil.
We reminisced about the travels of the last 5 years and how God has supplied every need—at the last minute.
We laughed at how God was seldom early—but HE was never late!
He shared stories of when he needed something for the ministry, soccer balls to give the kids, or bible to give out…
God always provided—at the last minute!
It’s all about faith—Do we have enough faith to trust that God will do what He promised?
It’s funny how faith is a muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets!
Each time God fills the need, your faith muscle gets stronger and another reminder of what God did in the past—helps faith grow in the future!
He talked about needing musical equipment—keyboards, drums, even a saxophone—
And one by one… they were donated…sometimes, from unlikely sources!
And right now, waiting to pack for the next Costa Rica trip in July 2013, his living room has 2 keyboards, a drum set, and… a saxophone!
We laughed at how God is our provision—always able to supply our every need!
Then I was reminded of the story of the mother in the Bible with the pot of oil that kept being refilled—EVERY TIME she took oil out—it was replenished!
You can find the story in I Kings 17: 1-16. Elijah asked her to use her last bread to make him a meal and in return, God would supply her need!
She gave all that she had—that’s the key right there—and God supplied all the need she would ever have!!
And I have just been reflecting on that story….and that song—My God is more than enough, He will supply all that I need—
Maybe you need to be reminded of that today?
There may be a struggle, a situation, a circumstance… that you are facing right now—
Just like the widow woman who made her last meal for someone else—God is asking you to trust, to do, to move…and He will catch you!
I have said this before but… someone shared with me this statement years ago, and I have shared this with everyone I can…
Faith is this…
When you have come to the end of all you know to do…
And you are about to step out into the unknown
Faith is knowing that one of two things will happen…
With that first step…
YOU will either step out onto concrete, or…
HE will teach you to fly!
HE will not let YOU fall!
Someone needs that today—reminisce of how God has gotten you through so much in the past—let that remind you of HIM!
Whether it’s musical equipment in your living room or a cruse of oil in your kitchen—YOUR GOD IS MORE THAN ENOUGH!
And…IF
You feel led to help a missionary out—one I highly recommend—because I know his life, and he is dedicated to his mission!

I know a child in Costa Rica could still use a tambourine or clarinet… of clothes or food or… a helping hand!
Feel free to donate to a worthy cause!
And I can promise you—my friend Butch Thornton will make sure every penny, every donation—goes to those in need!
