Why do we make it harder than it is?
That’s a line from one of my favorite Amy Grant songs.
Sometimes, we just make it into something that it just doesn’t have to be.
It can be as simple as… what’s best for the little ones?
Because, in the end, that’s all that matters—what’s best for them

Points2Ponder  Why do we get it all convoluted and turned upside down? When we just need to keep it simple…!

I had to make a hard decision this past weekend, and it was the hardest thing I’ve had to do in a while.
Do I put what I want ahead of what’s best for my grandkids?
Do I determine that, come hell or high water, I am going to get my way, my say, my day!
Or? Do I remember that it’s not about me, about what I want, about what I deserve…
It’s only about what’s best for the children.
And sometimes, what’s best for them is… you sacrificing what’s best for you.
I remember as a young father, not having any extra money, but scrounging up enough to buy my kids a cheeseburger…
To put in their lunchbox for school the next day.
I thought “all the kids in the lunch room will wish they had a cheeseburger just like my kids”
I remember thinking while I was in my office, no money to go to lunch because I had treated my kids to a cheeseburger…
Yeh- things were a little tough back then, but they were worth whatever sacrifice I had to make…for them to feel special.
I would imagine my kids so excited about opening their lunch box and there it was – a cheeseburger!
WOW! They would be excited and surprised and think “Papa got us a cheeseburger—he’s the best dad!”
Hey—it’s my memory, so I will remember it how I remember it…and they thought I was cool, in my memory.
Nothing was too much to sacrifice for my kids—so I missed a few lunches, so what. As long as they got their burger—I was happy.
Little did I find out until years later—they threw the cheeseburgers away because they were rock hard and a day old.
Hmmm?? Guess I didn’t think about that, now did I?
But still…it was about the sacrifice… for them, so they could be happy and have a good day.
That’s where my heart was then…and it’s still where my heart is…for my kids, for my grandkids.
And even if that meant me bowing out of a moment I dreamt of being a part of…so there would be peace and joy…
Then it was worth it.
Sometimes…we just make it harder than it seems…
Sometimes… it’s just right in front of your face…
Sometimes… you just bow out gracefully, for the greater good!
So those babies will have the best lunch ever!
At least…that’s what you thought!
To this day…I still remember that feeling of…my kids come first, no matter what the sacrifice, they are worth it all.
And… I still feel that way…
You finally realize that…
Sometimes we make it harder than it is…
That’s what Love is for…
It’s just that simple…
They are worth it all!
