"Remember eating your first piece of cake?"

You see that face? Now that’s a little boy who is enjoying the moment!
That is Fisher, and he is turning two in that picture—yep—literally turning 2 as I took the picture.
He is sitting in front of his cupcake version of the big cake that everyone else is going to have a piece of, but…
First things first.
And this is Fisher-man’s piece of cake—and it had a candle on it too—we were all impressed with his “candle blowing out” skills until..
His mom confessed that… she had been practicing with him all week!
Not sure I have ever heard a mom admit to that… much less ever aware of a mom taking the time to “practice” blowing out your candle.
That just seems funny in itself!
But for Fish, all he cared about was… the CAKE!
Everybody got the picture and moved on, but… they left Fisher with his spoon in hand and his very own big cupcake.
I decided to just watch him… for two reasons:
1-      he was only 2 and all the adults had left him alone while they tended to the party essentials
2-      and… he was having the most fun eating that frosting than I have ever seen a child have!
Each spoonful was more enjoyable than the last—and his face just said it all!

Points2Ponder  When’s the last time you had some“First Time Fun”! Just experienced a first and could NOT get enough of it!
It just made me watch him even more—I was intrigued—was it the frosting? Was it the texture? Was it the sheer joy of knowing “it’s all  mine!”
Whatever it was—this pint sized pistol was going for the gusto of just seizing the moment—and he was eating it up!
Each bite brought a bigger smile!
Made me remember that feeling of “Wow! This is some kind of good—I cannot get enough of it!” and I had to have more.
It’s a feeling that just overtakes you and… like Fisher… you don’t care who is watching and commenting while you are having this First Time Fun moment.
I wonder when we quit experiencing that?
When do we just become ho-hum about all that life offers—having seen it all, done it all, experienced it all!
And no “ear-to-ear” grin from FTF!
And that’s just so sad!
I watched Fisher’s father doing something that we just take for granted—he is a first time Dad, and this is his son’s first real party!
And Fisher’s dad was “in the moment”, experiencing it all, taking it all in, present for every bit of it!
From his son douse him with the water from the fire engine truck Fisther was rolling around in;
To running around with his son, greeting all of the guests—Ken had the same “ear to ear” grin that his son had with the cake.
Here was a man who was just in love with his son—and so grateful to have this moment with him.
And…it made me remember my son’s FTFs; all of them—and I, like Ken, am so glad that I was “present” for all of it—didn’t miss a thing!
Now… years later—watching this Dad with his son, it just took me back—and I am glad to say—I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!

FTF—when’s the last time you had some?

You don’t have to be two to experience it—
I have found that we are the ones who limit the FTF—sometimes, we are the ones who kill the FTF—because, it’s just not the thing to do anymore!
What will people say?
Probably what I said to Ken at his son’s party!
I told him “You look like you are having the time of your life—I really miss having those times—you remind me of how much fun they were!”

So… some FTF anyone?

It’s as good as frosting—and not counting the calories!
