Points2Ponder

"All to please a 4 year old--What would you do?"

They say you’ll do just about anything… when you really love somebody…
Even jump into a freezing pool, with your street clothes on?

Points2Ponder  When’s the last time you did something for someone else…that you DID NOT WANT TO DO… just because they asked?”
So… we had a birthday party for my niece’s son Alex(the one in the red shirt), who was turning 12.
It was a pool party at his grandparents’ house.
The kids were going to get into the pool—which always runs freezing—no matter what time of year—because it has a screen surrounding it.
And the adults were going to do what adults do… watch the kids in the pool and catch up on life and share a moment with family.
That was the plan!
Jett and his mom and sister came to the party.
We all had a good time eating and opening presents—then it was time for the “pool” in pool party!
Jett is 4, and he is learning to swim, as long as he has his swimmies on his arms—those flotation devices placed on each arm.
His mom forgot to bring them.
Jett wanted to go swimming.
We found a yellow swim tube for Jett to swim around with.
He was ready to go in.
I was placing him in the pool.
He had his toes in the water.
Then he looked up at me and said…
“I want you to go in with me. Please Nano!”
Wow!
Really?
No other adult was going in.
All the adults said to Jett “it’s okay, you can play with the boys. You don’t need anybody to go in with you!”
Jett fixed his stare on his Nano.
He was waiting for my answer.
My brother yelled out to me “Do you want to go in to the pool?”
I replied “Do I want to go into the pool? If I had wanted to go swimming, I would have brought swim trunks—but that’s not what’s important here!”
And I looked at Jett—as he was looking up at me.
I looked at the pool and then I looked at the adults, all saying not to go in, it was okay, he would be okay.
And then… I took everything out of my pockets, especially my Galaxy Note II cell phone.
I remembered this time—last time, I had forgotten my cell phone in my pocket and gotten into the pool—with Jett—and there went my cell phone!
This time—I wasn’t losing my smart phone to a poolside accident.
I didn’t have any clothes to change into.
I didn’t have any desire to go into that freezing pool.
I didn’t have any reason why I would do such a dumb thing.
Except one!
And with that—Jett and I walked into the pool—with him in my arms, laughing and giggling.
He looked at me like I was his hero!
And…
I didn’t care that the water was frigid!
I didn’t care that I didn’t have any clothes to change into.
All I cared about was—my grandson was on cloud nine because his Nano went into the pool with him—with my street clothes on!
All because he asked.
All because I love that little kid—yes—that much!
We played and laughed and giggled.
We talked and sang and swam.
And all that mattered was—he asked, and I was not going to disappoint him.
I know- he’s 4 now—and there will be something that I can’t do that will disappoint him.
But until that day—he will remember that, even with everyone watching and everyone saying don’t do it…
His Nano walked into that pool—with his grandson Jett!
