This was my Summer of “Aftermath”!!
That’s my second book—the sequel to One
Unexpected Event—and it was to come out in June—and the rest of the summer?Book Signings at small venues
Saturday Farmer’s Market appearances all summer long
Advertising throughout the state and beyond!
Yep—this was my summer that I planned to do what I wasn’t able to do last summer.
Last summer?
Yeh—that was the summer when my first book “One Unexpected Event” came out—In May!
The same May that my brother Joe died.
So…. That put the kibosh on that!
Just didn’t feel like it was right to go promote a book while something so serious was happening to someone I loved so much.
And I didn’t.
It came. It went.
It caused me a lot of problems in my family—all because I wrote a book—about a child being kidnapped!
Did I mention that it was a FICTION???
But… the story needed an ending—the first book left you wondering “What happened?”
So…Aftermath was born!
I wrote it in two months!
400 pages—in two months!
And then came the two months of editing and
sending to my publisher Xulon Press—and working with their team! And it was all complete!
Down to the front cover—I had all of this symbolism in the cover!
The blood red color—represented that blood is thicker than water and, in the end, this was a story about a family—connected by the blood!
The jet black color- represented the dark place some people end up that makes them do things they never would have imagined—all for “love”!
The polished white color – the purity of the child at the center of the story—his life was the one most altered from the course of the plan laid out!
And the picture!
The two grandmothers, fighting over their “grandson”
And the young man, in the middle of it all—
With “Blue” eyes—look closely—it took us a week to make those eyes blue!
And encased in an old Polaroid picture frame—like an old picture that captures a face stuck in time—not able to get out!
All of it—my story, my imagination, my vision!
And I was going to take it on the road!
I prepared my wife—“We will be gone most weekends to state fairs, book signings, farmer’s markets—promoting the book!”
She was up for it!
Book came out first week of June!
My friend got some bad news on the 10th of June!
Life is what happens when you’re making other plans!
And you realize—nothing more important than being available, present in the moment, counted on—just in case—you are needed!
And my “Summer to Promote” became my “Summer to Pray!”
And… I wouldn’t have it any other way!
The book was a fun project—feel free to read them both—they tell the truth—love conquers all—and a father’s love for his son will never give up!
But… me?
I don’t want to be “out there” when I may be needed “in here!”
I just got the video trailer for the book…was going to use it wherever I set up my “table”!
Feel free to check it out…
Making plans is good—
Being able to ”let go” of those plans and be “whatever is needed” for those you love—
Now that’s priceless!
