Reflections of ... MOM!

"I remember Mama-- Rose Matilda Scaglione"

Reflections Of… family!

                                                   by Alan P. Scaglione

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there!
We salute you—we could not have gotten here without you—MOM- you are inspiration!
You can see it on any sports game you watch—all the players give a shout out to their mom.
And at school events, everyone shows their appreciation for the undying support given by their mom.
Moms ROCK!
Even Jesus, when He was about to die for our sins… took time to make sure that His mom was taken care of.
He loved His mom, too!
It’s universal—moms are the best thing that ever happened to us—we cannot imagine our lives without them…
And when suddenly, they are taken away, so quickly, so unexpectedly, so abruptly… our lives, our hearts—shattered into pieces.
I know that’s how I felt—losing my Mama Rose when I was a senior in high school and only seventeen.
And suddenly, she was gone. I know she was gone because…
I had the misfortune to look at her face at precisely the moment that life was leaving her body.
I watched my Mom die.
And I wish to this day that… I had not.
It’s a memory that never goes away.
Because…that’s your Mom—she’s supposed to live forever; when she doesn’t, her death kills a part of you.
I have always wondered who I would have been had my mama lived—and known my kids, loved my grandkids, been in my life, all this time.
I know I would have been different, my kids would have been different and my grandkids too—just because Mama was around.
Everyone who has their mom—please hug her for me—and let her know that you know—how much better your life is—because she is in it.
I have a friend who will be having a rough Mother’s Day today.
You see…it’s the first one that her mom will not be here.
Because… her mom passed away last Wednesday, and the funeral is tomorrow.
So… this will not be a happy Mother’s Day for her or her 2 sisters and  a brother—their first without good ol’ Mom.
Our prayers go out to them.
Just the adjustment of her not being there—it’s life altering.
The days will move slowly and eventually, you just start moving again—but you move different, you move slower, you move altered.
You are no longer that same person because—your Mom is no longer there…just for you!
Moms are the only ones who know your idea will sell.
Moms are the only ones who like your newest hair cut.
Moms are the only ones who really talk about your latest and greatest idea.
Moms are the only ones who believe with you whatever your newest “get rich quick” scheme is.
Moms are the only ones who remind you of the people who are in your corner, starting with her.
Moms are MABEL – Moms Always Bring Extra Love!
So today, while you are dreading the long lines at the restaurant or dreading going to your Mom’s church with the old people—remember!
My friend and I wish we could have one moment back with our moms! Just one! Even IF that moment was standing in line at Cracker Barrel waiting.

At least, we’d be waiting in line with our MOM!
One Special NOTE: Today is the one year anniversary of the death of my brother Joseph Eddie Scaglione.
It’s been a year of adjustment and loss—I cannot believe how much I have missed him—I did NOT expect to miss him this much.
We went to his house to sit in his spot—his backyard—just take a moment to reflect on his life—to remember our brother!
