Points2Ponder

You’re still the same people you once were, even if… it feels like you’ve grown so far apart.
And you’re not sure if you even know each other anymore.
Anybody know what I’m talking about?
Points2Ponder When’s the last time you stopped the world
and looked someone in the eyes and said “I miss US!”
So I spent a few days in Naples at a really
nice resort, with my daughter, her friend Kris and my wife.We just relaxed around the pool, went down the Lazy River, a few times…and just chilled.
Everyone had been through a lot so far this year, and we could all use some “downtime!”
We stayed up late, like 2am, playing Upwards and Rumikub!
We got up early, some of us running, some of us doing interviews with authors on our vacation.
But we just reconnected.
Laughed a lot, talked a lot—made some funny memories!
The best part of was—there was my adult daughter, spending time with her old man—and not running away!
I was thankful for the time we shared.
I was appreciative of the moments we made.
I was aware that she could definitely be somewhere else, with someone else, and not with her parents.
But…still, of her own choice, there she was—with us—sharing a hallmark moment!
We celebrated her birthday at a place called Ted Turner’s Montana Grill.
We all tried bison—yes—I said bison! That elk kind of stuff.
And it wasn’t half bad!
They brought her a cookie and ice cream with a candle, and our waiter Nathan sang her “Happy Birthday!”
We laughed our heads off!
Or were we still laughing at the Elvis impersonator two restaurants away who was entertaining the outside crowd.
It was just too funny!
We were outside, on a Friday night, just enjoying the company, taking in the perfect weather and just relaxing.
We then went to see The Great Gatsby – the first 10pm movies Bella and I have been to in years!
I can honestly say—we stayed up late all vacation long.
But the moment I had been hoping for, I had been praying for, I had been waiting for…
Came Saturday, while we were shopping at Ellenton Prime Outlet Shoppes.
I got to spend some one on one time with my daughter—shopping for clothes for her birthday.
We talked about clothes and what’s going on her life—and just reconnected!
I told her that I missed US- how she used to be—when I was the only voice that mattered in her life.
But I told her that…I was adjusting to just being one of the voices in her life and not the only voice.
I told her that I was still her number one fan and she could always rely on me to be there to love and support her!
And, in the middle of an outlet store, we had our heart to heart – and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
She looked at her old man as her dear old dad—her Papa, and I reminisced about that little blonde haired angel.
There’s a song Kenny Chesney sings called “There goes my life!” and… that’s how I feel, in a nutshell.
One moment, she’s running around in pigtails and pink bows; the next split second, she’s driving off to college!
But sometimes—we get to stop the world, look someone in the eyes and say “I miss US!”
And sometimes – they say that they miss US too!
By the way—my vacation?
Priceless!
