Our country was dealt another surprising blow—this time—in Moore, Oklahoma—with children involved.
The first picture I saw of the tornado coming toward the town honestly scared me—I felt like it was out of some movie.
Like in Independence Day, when the aliens are hovering over the White House… but, this was not an alien attack.
This was Mother Nature wreaking havoc over the Midwest—and this time, there were kindergartners missing, possibly dead.
Our country prayed together, and we watched the TV and marveled at the everyday guy, the neighbor, the bystander…
The REAL HERO in our midst!
At first estimation, it was 51 and of that, 20 were believed to be children—that kindergarten class no one could account for.
But by today, it was ratcheted down to 26, with 7 children lost—so sad for the 7, but so thankful most of the class was found safe!
The news said the volunteers were going around to every house, knocking on doors, listening… for cries, screams, anything to tell them someone was alive.
They reported that there were houses that had been lifted up and carried and then just dropped…but they landed on underground shelters…
Sealing the people inside, safe from the storm but now… imprisoned by the house that landed on them.
It was horrific and yet heroic!
People found people who would have just been assumed dead… had not the volunteers gotten involved and searched for their neighbors.
Churches opened their doors—
You know—no one cares if it’s a Baptist church or a mosque when something like this happens—all that matters is… we are the family of man—humankind.
And the kindness we show at times like this…
Just makes me proud to be an American.
Proud because, no one is Red or Blue state when this happens…we are all Red,White and Blue America—the Home of our Heroes!
Truth is…most of us can’t go there and help, but… all of us can reach out and help in the way that always helps…
Donate to whomever you choose: RedCross, Salvation Army, some other charitable organization—just do something to help somebody.
And look around—tomorrow, you may be driving and see an accident—you run to help—and become somebody’s hero!
Not that you ever planned it but… we Americans are just “get involved, do what we can, do ALL we can” kind of people.
And I for one am so proud to see how we do what we do so well… we raise heroes!
And not a single one is in training… they are all first class, full-fledged Everyday Heroes—ready, able and willing to help!
Heroes don’t question, second guess or back down—they respond… first!
I remember Sully, that Pilot who saved his flight, said it this way…
When asked how you prepare to be a hero…he said, “I’ve spent my life preparing for this moment—I just didn’t know it!”
And I bet I am speaking to a hero right now!
You—all of you—reading this article…
I salute you all!
