Reflections Of… God!

Sometimes,
it’s the extraordinary you find right smack dab in the middle of the ordinary!
And
it makes all the difference in the world. We just have to pay attention to our surroundings—and see what is right before our eyes.
Like a burning bush—that is not consumed!
That’s what Moses saw.
You see- the extraordinary was NOT the burning bush.
Bushes in the desert catch on fire due to the heat of the day and the sun beating down on them.
That’s ordinary in the desert.
What’s extraordinary is… that this bush was not consumed!
It got Moses’ attention—and then—God was able to speak to him, right there, in front of the non consuming burning bush.
Exodus 3:4 tells us that God got his attention by using the bush—and then, He was able to speak to him and get his undivided attention.
Sometimes, that’s what it takes—an ordinary situation like we have been in a million times before, except—today, it’s different.
And that different is what makes it extraordinary.
You could be doing something you have always done, but somehow, it’s suddenly different.
I have always written.
I wrote poetry, first to my girlfriends, then to my wife, then to my children, and to the Lord.
I then wrote songs. The first one was about the ladies of our church’s Amen Corner called “The Oldies but Goldies for God!”
And my mom Rose, Ottie Bullard, Hazel Rozear and Becky Edwards were those ladies—they are all in heaven now, but… they laughed at that song!
I graduated to better, more serious songs like “Speak The Name” and “Remnant”, two of my most popular inspirational songs that I’ve penned.
And I’ve written short stories my whole life, from “The Man in the Mirror” to my all time favorite “Papa’s Gloves!”
So writing was something I always did.
Ordinary to me.
Til something extraordinary happened.
You see—I had this dress rehearsal for my death—that heart attack at age 49 that kind of shook my foundation and scared me to my core.
Yep—that was the extraordinary!
Didn’t see that coming!
But… when it hit, it was like a tsunami over my spirit and my soul—overwhelmed me.
And I didn’t have anything to write about—couldn’t see the good in anything—just wondered “why did I have a heart attack at 49?”
Until one day…
My friend Suzann, who had always read my emails, my short stories, my poems-- so she remembered “the writer” in me.
And she just said “Someday, when you are ready, I remember how inspirational your writing is, and I just want you to write something for my website GrannyZann. When you’re ready—anything you want to write—I just want you to know—I miss what you have to say!”
And there it was.
The biggest challenge I had received since my heart attack.
And I wondered “What could I ever have to say that would inspire someone ever again?”
And I turned her down. The first time; the second time too.
She waited a few months and then… “third time is the charm”, she must have thought.
And she asked. I felt so bad for letting my friend down—this time – I said YES!
And with the first column about God’s 911, which is Psalm 91:1 – out of the ordinary rose again—this writer!
We’re in our third year now—twice a week columns here, twice a month author interviews for Xulon Press, and… my third novel completed—
Guess God just had to get my attention!
My burning bush was a burning heartburn that wouldn’t go away!
Maybe He wants to be your attention.
What’s He gonna have to do to get yours?
Be
careful—He’s serious as a heart attack!
Believe
me—I know!
