Reflections of Family!

"Average Saturday night hanging out at the Piano!"

            Reflections Of… FAMILY!

                                                       by Alan P. Scaglione

See that picture?
For those who know me and know my struggles over the course of the last year and a half—you know!
That’s a perfect picture!
Yep – I had a perfect Saturday night—that ended with an impromptu visit by my son and his wife Kim and our precious Jett!
And…It included Nano being used as a human dinosaur, with Jett on my back, as I travelled down the hallway on all fours—
With Jett yelling, through is glee and giggles, “Backward Nano,Backward!”
And for him…Beep, Beep, Beep—I was backing up on all fours!
I am sure my back is going to love me tomorrow, but… for tonight—I wouldn’t have missed this for the world!
As I looked around, there was my daughter-in-law Kim, great with child—wait a minute—GREAT GREAT with Child!
She is just so ready to have Princess Cali Harper—and we anxiously await her arrival—no one more anxious than Kim!
But she was eating her Eggplant Parmesan from Olive Garden that we got her—old wife’s tale says it brings on the delivery.
And she was talking with Bella about the baby, going through pictures and seeing for the first time just how much my son does look like me.
And she found a picture of Schuyler(pronounced Skyler) and said “Wow! Jett looks just like you!”
And in the family room was Schuyler and Ashley, our daughter who had flown in for a week to be with family.

They were singing and playing piano—something they always did while they were growing up.
And I remembered teaching each of them the limited piano skills that I have—and now, look at them! They play beautifully.
We watched some funny videos on the internet and just sat around and caught up on life.
Kim asked Jett if he remembered that he used to live in this house. I remembered that he took his first steps in this house.
And the best part?
They just lingered.
No one was in a hurry to leave.
We were just an average family, on an average Saturday night, sharing life.
And I just felt my heart about to burst… with gratitude.
You see—we have not been an average family for a while.
Things just seem to get in the way- disagreements, disappointments, disillusionments.
All of it—just things getting in the way of what really matters—sharing your life with your family.
And I thought to myself “What a wonderful world!”
And said a prayer of thanksgiving.
Because…none of this would have been possible without the unseen hand of God working on all of our behalf.
Contrary to what some believe—God is for family healings—He actually orchestrates them so He will be honored and appreciated.
Believe me—ONLY GOD could have healed some of the things we have gone through in the last year—but, here HE was… healing it all!
On an average Saturday night in America.
The Word says “Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires!” Psalm 37:4
And there it was—God knew my heart—and He knew that I have remained faithful to Him and to His Word—in the midst of it all!
And… He was giving me my heart’s desire!
I just wanted to cry—I wanted to scream—I wanted to dance!
Instead, I just looked around and took it all in and “I said to myself—What a wonderful world!”
Please note: God rewards faithfulness—He is a rewarder of those who diligently (that means fight with your life) seek HIM!
You have to earn your “faithful stripes” with God—He wants to see “Will you love me even IF it never works out like you want?”
You don’t bargain with God—you recognize and appreciate that He is the BEST thing that will ever happen to you – BAR NONE!

And your heart’s desires? Matters of the heart are never financial nor are they possessions—
Remember: all that matters is: The best things in life are NOT things at all!
He knows that—that’s why He fulfils your heart’s desires!

And I for one—am so glad HE did!
