Points2Ponder

Bella and I spent some time with my brother Joe’s widow Denise and her sweet lifelong friend Madeleine.
I call Denise my “Rose Dawson”- remember the movie Titanic? Denise is golfing, exploring, living! My brother would be cheering her on!!
I say they are lifelong friends because, these ladies have known each other since age 18. They have stayed connected through all of life’s ups and downs and unexpected changes.
For example, they knew each other as young nuns in the convent; they knew each other as ex-nuns leaving the convent; they knew each other as young marrieds having children;
They knew each other as divorcees raising their children; they now know each other as widows who are living the life God gave them to the fullest!
And… they are a delight to be around and just so naturally funny! And YES—you read right—they were once NUNS!!!
They were visiting from Canada—Ottawa, where
they are on staff at their home church.
Bella and I invited them to stroll through our
local greek community called Tarpon Springs, Florida—where sponge is harvested
and baklava is on every table! It was a beautiful day—about 75 degrees, slightly windy, sun was out, and everyone that Saturday was just taking in the day—and enjoying the stroll.
That picture?
Well…. IF it had been taken just two seconds later—Now THAT would have been the picture!
We are standing just as you see—a bystander had offered to take our picture.
It’s so funny because I am usually THAT guy—the one who always offers to take pictures for couples who don’t know anyone and want a “couple” picture.
It drives my wife crazy—let’s just say, she is not going to raise her hand and say “Would you like me to take a picture of the two of you?” No—just not my Bella!
So… this time—Random Act of Kindness in progress—the guy “Tom” offered to take ours.
We are standing there—picture snaps and… Voila! A Gust of wind runs right past us—Taking my Hat With it!!
Landing the hat—in the River!!
It was hilarious!
We laughed until we cried—
But the best was about to happen!
Tom said “You want me to get the hat for you?” Remember—it’s IN the river!
“No, that’s okay...it’s in the River!” I exclaimed.
“But…that’s a NIKE hat—can’t just let it go, right?” Tom said.
And before I could stop him… He was kneeling down on the dock, bent over the edge and SCOOP!!!! There it is!!
My Nike hat was drenched from the river, but it was back in my hand!
All because of a good Samaritan doing a Random Act of Kindness that really touched my heart!
We thanked him and continued our stroll.
These ladies are a lot like me—never a dull moment, rarely a moment of dead air—they love to talk as much as I do—Bella did a lot of listening that Saturday!
The stories they told—I have to tell you—hilarious!
One was about a bidet and a young nun STUCK in it!
Okay—back up reader! How many of you even know what a bidet (pronounced bah-day) is? Second question—how many will admit to using one?
For me—the answers are – Yes and YES! I really have! Had to—it was just sitting there, daring me NOT to—had to take it for a test run!
And yes—it works!!
We laughed until we cried!
And then… we laughed about the hat in the river!
Just four friends, sharing a moment—loving life!
You got any friends like that?
