Points2Ponder

"You just never know who needs a kind word!"

 Everyone has one…
That person they call when they need someone to listen.
Someone to understand.
Someone to say just the right thing.
Someone to be there at just the right time.
To make it all better.
To make you feel better.
To make sense of the senseless parts of life.
That friend who is always there for you.
And you know… they will always be there for you.
But—who is there for them?

Points2Ponder  When’s the last time you stopped to ask your special friend how they were doing? And actually stopped to listen?

It’s really funny.
For someone who is always talking, all the time, on the phone at work, on the phone at home, even talking to myself…
I am also told that I am a good listener, that I pay attention and that I care about the other party in a friendship.
And it’s true—I make a point of making sure that my friends know that I am supportive and encouraging and want only the best for them.
I have often said “Call me when you need to talk—my phone is always by my side!”
And some have called just to see if that’s true—and it is!
But most don’t call to see how I am doing— but I got one of those calls today.
My adopted son Josh called me just to ask how I was doing.
I have to admit—it threw me off—I’m usually the one who is caring enough to call.
I call.
I write.
I remember.
I do all the right things to be “that” right friend. The one everyone would love to have.
And yet today—God knew—I needed a friend.
And there was my “son” calling to ask his “dad” how was he doing?
And he was listening.
Just made me feel good to know—
Someone out there was wondering if I was doing okay?
We assume some people just always have it together, never need reassurance or encouragement or a reminder that somebody loves them.
Just because they are always “that” person to you!
But maybe it’s time for you to return the favor—surprise them with a call that just says “how are YOU doing?”
I can promise you—you will surprise them, you will take them aback, you will make their day!

And you will remind them that—they matter to you, they are more than just a listening booth, they count with you!
And maybe you need to learn how it feels—to reach out to them—find out how you can be a friend to them!
It’s like milk -- It does a friendship good!
