That being said...
I spend my work life taking calls, about 100,
all day long.
I deal with the public, and sometimes, they
are just funny!Just thought that I would share a few of my favorite stories—
Hopefully, you will find them funny and NOT see yourself in any of them!
Like the time…
This man was recovering from surgery that centered around his private region.
I am always polite and empathetic, asking him how he was doing?
He replied “I am doing great—thanks to my mother-in-law!”
I had to ask—“Thanks to your wife’s mom?”
He laughed and said “Yes sir—she cleans out my wound every day—my wife doesn’t want to touch it—but her mom takes care of it!”
I just sat there—and said “Well, I guess that’s what family’s for—to take care of you when you can’t take care of yourself!”
He didn’t get it!
And then there are the ones who…have to get in the Last Word!
At times, I have to explain why we have denied a claim.
It’s not easy explaining that they will not be getting the check they are counting on.
I understand that it’s a difficult time they are going through, and I am always sensitive to their plight.
One elderly lady, in her 80’s, was listening to my explanation.
She was polite, responding with “yes sir!” and “I understand you have to do your job!”
I thought it was a good conversation. I treated her with respect, and she was doing the same.
At the end, I asked “is there anything else I can do for you today, ma’am?”
She responded “yes sir! You can take that boat oar out of you’re a** and quit Blankin’ with me! Where’s my Blankin’ money?”
And hung up on me!
Just so you know—she did not say “Blankin”!
I had pictured her as a sweet little old granny teaching Sunday school—until that last comment!
And then there is the always funny “YOU PEOPLE!”
YOU PEOPLE are keeping my money from me!
YOU PEOPLE are turning off my lights!
YOU PEOPLE are stopping me from eating!
I love this one… I always politely say…
“I don’t know who YOU PEOPLE are, but… I am just trying to explain what has happened!”
That’s when they usually hang up.
I have been threatened, cussed at, yelled at, insulted and criticized…
All at the other end of the phone!
We call it the “Power of the Phone!”
It empowers the public to abuse that person on the other end of the phone…thinking they are immune and protected by the phone!
They think they can say anything they want because—I don’t know who they are and I can’t contact them!
Anybody remember that…
They called me.
They provided me with their name and phone number and address.
They are on a recorded line.
Nope THEY didn’t remember that!
I have to tell you…
One time…
This guy was telling me off and started to cuss me out and then just hung up in my ear!
He told me!!!
Until—
I looked into his claim at his contact info: address and phone number!
I called him back and said…
“I’m sorry sir, we must have gotten disconnected. I called you back at the number we have listed in your claim. Was there something else you needed to say?”
I have NEVER heard anyone apologize quicker
and explain faster how he didn’t mean
to say what he said.
Oh the Power of the Phone!
I just had to laugh—look who’s scared now!MORAL of this story is… Next time YOU decide to tell off, berate, ridicule and verbally abuse a Cell Center representative…
Remember—We’ve got your number AND we know where you live!
I’m Just… Reflecting on -- Life!
