Reflections of ... Life!

Our Greatest Accomplishment: Cali Harper Scaglione

Reflections Of… LIFE!

                                     by Alan P. Scaglione

I just accomplished something that I am amazed that I did…
I just finished the sequel to my first book “One Unexpected Event.”
It’s called “Aftermath!”
And it’s a whopping 45 chapters long!
I cannot believe I did this—and it just flowed out of me.
I remember that I had 4 chapters done at the beginning of the year—but then I trashed those chapters and started anew.
When we went to Savannah for Valentine’s Week—I had 8 chapters written.
When we left on the 17th—I had a total of 22 chapters completed.
That means that…since February 17th until March 9th—I have written another 23 chapters!
WOW! I am amazed.
I’m not boasting—I am just thankful—in the middle of working a fulltime job, interviewing 2 authors a month for Xulon, writing 2 blogs a week for Reflections…
And getting ready for the grand entrance of our new granddaughter
 Cali Harper Scaglione
who arrived on March 6th, 10:40am, all 7 lbs. 5 oz, 19 inches of perfection-
I also wrote my sequel.
And so many say—they don’t have time to get anything accomplished.
There’s an old adage in business that says—
You want something done? Give it to a business person—he or she knows how to get things done!
And it’s true—but you have to wonder, why is it that some people can just “get ‘er dun?”
And others? Just full of excuses on why they just didn’t have time.
Funny—they’re usually the same people who put a million things out on facebook or sit and comment on your entries—like, comment, share!
But, get them to accomplish a single task? They just can’t seem to do that!
I had two conversations with two different people, both of which had to do with the difference between desire and delivery!
One said they have this desire to do so much and yet, get so little accomplished.
I recommended to them that they attempt less, accomplish more and apply the accomplishment to the next task.
There are people who sign up for everything—and show up for nothing.
What’s the point? Sure- we say “their heart is in the right place!”
But--- where’s their butt?
Seriously—how is it any help if you’re the first volunteer and the last to show up?
I counseled them to take smaller steps toward goal setting—set little goals, meet them and then use those victories to encourage to set bigger goals.
We live in a time when weeks, months, sometimes, years go by—and we accomplish so little of the things we say we want to do.
And we use all of the standard excuses: time, family, work, unexpected events.
Hey—life is what happens when you’re making other plans—plan for it—deal with it—don’t let it stop you!
I always say—if you fail to plan, you plan to fail—and I never plan to fail!
Then the other conversation deals with someone who is brilliant and has so much to give back and so much time to dedicate to giving back.
But—as they said to someone to pass on to me “Tell him to leave me the heck alone—I’m doing exactly what I want to do—and I don’t want to do more!”
Next time I saw them—they asked why I wasn’t pushing them anymore? I said “I got your message loud and clear—you don’t want to do anything more!”
I won’t apologize for being a promise keeper, a goal attainer or a dreamer who sees his dreams come true!
I also won’t judge you if you are not—but at some point, someone’s going to ask “What did you do with the talent, the gift I gave you?”
The scripture says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” Philippeans 4:19
I just happen to believe The Word as written—and applied.
What about you?
Proof’s in the puddin’!
