Points2Ponder

Just when you think you know somebody…
You know what I’m talking about? There are just some people who are so patterned and set in their ways that…
You could set your clock by what they are going to do when, where they are going to go and how they are going to react.
And then… they walk out into the ocean!
Points2Ponder When’s the last time someone did something
so out of character that it made you go “Huh?” and take a second look to make
sure—it was them!
I had promised my wife a “Just Chill” weekend.
You have to know… I plan our weekends
pretty full.Usually at least 2 events planned for each day—and sometimes more!
I just like to catch up with the people I love, go new places, return to places I love, sometimes often, and make memories that will sustain me during the work week.
So… when I give up a weekend to “just chill” – that’s a real treat for my wife—and I want her to know—I get it, you just want to relax and just do nothing.
And I respect that—and I honor her desire to do absolutely nothing!
And this was going to be one of those weekends!
I let her sleep-in Saturday morning—something she doesn’t get to do since the alarm clock goes off at 5:15 am; like clockwork, I reach for her, and… she’s already up!
So…sleeping in on a Saturday? That’s her kind of day!
I got up and took myself to get a cup of Cuban Coffee and walk around the Farmer’s Market.
I love to just meander, looking for something interesting, drinking my coffee, taking in the hustle and bustle of a Farmer’s Market.
I stopped and bought her a bunch of yellow daisies… Just Because… I love her!
I got a call—It was my sister-in-law Kay. My sometimes lethargic brother Paul was feeling energetic and wondered if we would like some company.
You don’t know what a surprise this is until I tell you—we live 100 miles apart.
Paul was offering to drive over for the day—what a treat for us—Paul and Kay are family who are our Best Friends!
So… I said “Sure! Where’s he want to go?”
Kay responded. “He said the Beach!”
Now that’s the strange part. Kay, Bella and I love the beach. Paul? Not so much!
But I jumped onboard. “Tell him if he comes this far, we will drive over here!”
And with that… they were on their way.
Now I had to get home and wake my Sleeping Beauty!
And I did!
She loved the flowers and then immediately went into “Someone’s coming over” mode!
You have to know that our home is always ready for visitors—just the way my “Suzie Homemaker who is a General Manager at Work” likes to run her ship.
And we both know—it is HER ship to run—I’m just the first mate…kind of like Gilligan!
So… a 15 minute quick run through, wipe down and dust—and Voila! The house is Bella Ready!
They get here. We get on the road. We head for the beach.
Pretty basic, pretty common, pretty much expected.
They had brought over their beach chairs; we had ours! Down to the Beach we went.
All still pretty basic—Paul doesn’t like the beach, and he doesn’t like sitting on the beach—and yet, here we were!
So I carry our chairs; they carry theirs.
We all agree on a place by the water, and I start to assemble our chairs.
Now comes the “Whoa! What just happened here?” part.
Paul drops his chair and makes a bee-line for the water! YES for the water!
And we three look at each other and go “What the heck? Is that Paul heading for the water?”
We just cracked up laughing!
You have to know just how out of character this is for my pretty much routine brother.
I had to get a picture. You see it! I can prove it!
My boy made it to shore!
And I have never ever been more proud of him!
Nothing Routine in 2013?
I can see-- Paul took me at my word!
