"Nana and Jett share a special Holiday memory!"

Sometimes, the best gift you can give is… to share.
Sharing the time you hold so dear with someone you love so much.
For those who know me, they know… my grandkids are everything to me!
I just love spending time with them, whenever I can, for as long as I can.
Needless to say, I probably monopolize “most” of our time with them.
I say most… some have said ALL!
Maybe I do plan out the time we get to spend with them down to the second—including extra activities, just in case, there is more time!

Points2Ponder  When’s the last time you threw out the plans, stepped aside and let someone you love just enjoy the day unfolding?

So we had this day with Jett planned out.
Okay… I had the day planned out.
I packed an activity bag for us to play.
It had my new remote control laser tag race cars, courtesy of my best friends The Mays, Sandy and Captain D!
It had my three sling shots and rocks—Jett has a pond in front of his house.
I was ready for a fun day with my grandson.
Usually, Nana comes along for the ride and is always involved with whatever I have planned, but… kind of lets me have my Jett time.
And honestly, I don’t usually think anything of it.
But today… I deferred my treasured time to the one I love so much… my wife!
I stepped aside and watched as she and our grandson made cupcakes and Christmas cookies, side by side.
They giggled and laughed and got their hands “dirty” with cupcake batter and cookie dough.
And they looked like they were having the time of their lives.
And I watched from the living room, giving Nana and JettJett some one-on-one quality time.
Nana let Jett stir the batter.
Nana showed Jett how to work the mixer—okay, okay, so she held the mixer, but… he had his little hands on it and he thought HE was making it work.
Nana helped Jett with the cookie cutters as they cut out the cookies. Jett would say, “What’s this?” and Nana said, “A Star!”
And Jett repeated “that’s a Star!”
It really was magical, this moment between Nana and grandson.

And I wasn’t in any part of it.

Jett hugged her so tight, and he stood beside her on his step stool, wearing his “Percy” Thomas the Train apron that our friend Suzann had handmade for him.
He was just so engaged and “in the moment” with his Nana.
He never left her side—that was a miracle because… Jett normally has an attention span of about…30 seconds!!
So, to see him standing there for almost an hour, holding the mixer, stirring the batter, pouring the batter into the cupcake tins, grinning ear to ear!

His eyes glistened; his cheeks were like cherries;
Except for his lips—they were stained from blackberries!
Sorry… been reading a little too much Night Before Christmas.

Other family members dropped by the house while Jett was baking with his Nana.
They called to him; his mom even called him, but he said, “I can’t leave—I’m baking with Nana!”
And I’ve never heard anything sweeter!

Who knows?
He may end up being his generation’s Buddy from King of Cakes!
And it all started standing on that step stool, next to his Nana!

It really feels good to give up something you love…
For someone you love more!

By the way… never did open that “activity” bag—nope, maybe next time—
This time just unfolded better than I could have ever planned!
